  内容简介:

  New generation mobile networks evolving from LTE to 5G have expanded the system capacity at a faster rate than ever, but are still facing tough challenges such as in achieving ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC) and the required level of quality of experience (QoE), especially for rich media applications such as video streaming. Cisco has reported that video traffic in mobile networks is rising at a 90% annual growth rate and has been the dominant traffic in any type of networks. Ensuring QoE has become a major goal of service providers and network operators for mobile media delivery which is highly bandwidth consuming and subject to wireless channel constraints. Therefore, developing effective quality metrics is currently one of the research focuses of video technologies and services. In this seminar, a review of the existing methods for quantifying the quality of video streaming is given, providing the audience with knowledge on traditional quality assessment technologies as well as the latest developments of QoE based quality assessment in streaming services with both theoretical and practical aspects.

  Dr. Xiaohong Peng obtained his PhD degree from the University of Manchester in 1995. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering & Applied Science at Aston University. He is the Head of the Adaptive Communications Networks Research Group and Head of Wireless Communications – 5G Research Group in Aston Institution of Photonic Technology. Dr. Peng has published more than 120 academic papers in journals and international conferences, including IEEE Transactions papers on Information Theory, Wireless Communications, Vehicular Technology, and Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. He was the recipient of the Best Paper Awards at the International Conference on Connected Smart City in 2015, The Sixth International Conference on Advances in Vehicular Systems, Technologies and Applications in 2017 and 2018, and the Top Cited Paper Award by Elsevier Journal on Ad Hoc Networks in 2006. He has led more than 15 research projects sponsored by research councils such as EPSRC, Royal Academy of Engineering, and industries such as British Telecom (BT), Xyratex, BlackBerry, BAE Systems, Jaguar Land Rover, and Highways England.
