　　本次活动教师发展中心特别邀请美国爱荷华大学杨天宝助理教授，与我校师生分享Optimization and Learning Theory的研究及进展。具体安排如下，欢迎感兴趣的师生参加。

　　In this talk, I will discuss fundamental issues of dealing with data in machine learning, including why we need big data from learning theory perspective, how to optimize machine learning problems with big data, and what factors besides data would have an impact on the prediction performance.  For optimization, I will talk about our recent research on large-scale stochastic optimization leveraging local properties of the optimization problem.  For learning theory, I will discuss its importance and different factors that determine the learnability of machine learning models, including our recent research results.

　　七、主讲人简介：

　　杨天宝博士现任爱荷华大学计算机系助理教授，他的主要研究兴趣包括机器学习及其在大数据分析上的应用，并在机器学习领域的高水平会议和期刊上发表70余篇论文（CCF-A类近30篇），Google引用1700多次。并于2015年8月在悉尼召开的数据挖掘及知识发现会议(SIGKDD)和2014年4月在费城召开的国际数据挖掘大会（SIAM SDM）上做教学报告。他2007年本科毕业于中国科技大学，2012年博士毕业于美国密歇根州立大学。在2014年8月加入爱荷华大学前，曾在美国NEC实验室和美国通用电气全球研发中心做研究员。
