UESTC and the Shenzhen city government signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation framework agreement on Dec 18 to deepen mutual cooperation.

The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) will establish an institute for advanced study in Shenzhen, Guangdong province through joint efforts with the Shenzhen city government.

UESTC and the Shenzhen city government signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation framework agreement on Dec 18 to deepen cooperation in fields including the cultivation of high-level innovative talents, scientific research, achievements transformation, platform construction, and international exchanges.

As a key part of the agreement, the two sides will build the institute into an international first-class advanced study institute that integrates personnel training, scientific research, and achievements transformation. It will focus on frontier technology and industrial innovation in the field of electronic information, and will satisfy the needs of the city's industrial development.

The Shenzhen city government will provide the institute with relevant policies and scientific research funds, as well as make room for the institute in the city's Longhua district.

The city will also support UESTC to jointly build an industrial technology research institute on electronic information with local vocational technical institutes, and to explore new mechanisms for industry-study-research cooperation.

UESTC will also set up academician workstations, national high-level talent work platforms, and post-doctoral workstations in Shenzhen, as well as build high-end think tanks and talent training bases in the field of electronic information, according to the agreement.

In addition, UESTC will bring scientific and technological achievements that are in accordance with the development of strategic emerging industries and future industries in Shenzhen and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to Shenzhen for further incubation, transformation, and industrialization.

As a trailblazer in China's reform and opening-up, Shenzhen has gathered a large number of globally competitive electronic information companies, such as Huawei, ZTE, and Tencent. UESTC is renowned as China's cradle for the national electronics industry, and it was selected as among China's "Double First-class" universities in 2017.
