Communication Issues in VANET Real-Time Information Generation and Control Systems

To achieve effective and efficient message delivery for road safety and infotainment applications, the challenges Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) address have only increased in time as, along with fast and cost-effective route planning, environmental sensibilities are nowadays also prominent. Currently, many ITS related studies focus on studying Car-to-Car (C2C) and Car-to-Infrastructure (C2I) communications in Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) environments. The utilization of such infrastructure-less and flexible topology networks poses several challenges for the routing mechanism, specifically through broadcasts. On the basis of traditional VANET communications, an advanced cognitive radio (CR) VANET architecture with multi-channel and multi-hop communications is further considered. Cognitive routing coupled with spectrum sensing and spectrum sharing technologies is potentially investigated.

Yueyue Li received the MSc (with distinction) and Ph.D degrees from Nottingham Trent University, UK, in 2008 and 2013, respectively. She currently works as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Communication and Information Engineering, UESTC. Her research interests include MANET/VANET communications and networking, protocol design, modeling and analysis of spectrum resource management in cognitive radio MANETs/VANETs.

Electromagnetic scattering model for simulate SAR image

The research on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging simulation from the virtual environment has important scientific significance in microwave remote sensing, target detection and separation technology of signal. In order to form the SAR image for the 3-D scene, the electromagnetic scattering form different kinds of rough surfaces are studied, i.e. the rough sea surface, grass, rough soil surface. Surface scattering is caused by dielectric discontinuities at all points on a surface boundary; while volume scattering is caused by dielectric discontinuities distributed throughout a volume. In the simulation of SAR image, it usually needs massive electromagnetic computation for the backscattering from rough surface. Accordingly, the electromagnetic model should be easy to evaluate and have a wide range of applicability in frequency, angular range, polarization and roughness scales. In my research, small perturbation model (SPM) by giving explicit expressions is used for small-scale roughness, and then integral equation model (IEM) which is more complex than SPM is used for rougher surface. A model for scattering from a low-dielectric layer of Rayleigh scatterers bounded by randomly rough surface is used to calculate the scattering from leafy vegetation or some snow fields.

Conghui Qi is a post-doc majored in signal processing. She obtained bachelor’s degree in microwave engineering in UESTC, then performed PhD research in computational electromagnetic advised by Prof. Zhiqin Zhao in UESTC. Her research interests include electromagnetic scattering from rough surface, clutter analysis and target detection in complex environment.

Security Issues in Bitcoin and Crypto-Currency Systems

Throughout history, money has evolved several times from golden and silver coins to paper money called banknotes, then credit cards and now Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a digital currency (also called cryptocurrency) that uses cryptographic techniques to regulate the creation of coins and verify the transfer of funds. It is based on decentralized trust to operate without central authority or financial institution. Bitcoin is pretty much like cash, where it can be stolen or lost. This presentation examines the constraints and security challenges of Bitcoin ecosystem. Accordingly, better security tools and practices of Bitcoin ecosystem are identified and discussed. This allows consumers to enjoy a secure and trouble-free bitcoin experience.

Abubaker Wahaballa currently working as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of the Network and Data Security, School of Information and Software Engineering, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China UESTC. He received the PhD degree from UESTC in 2015. His current research interests include public key cryptography, BitCoin, NFC payment security, e-auction.
