　　本次讲座邀请卡塔尔计算研究所高级科学家Xiaosong Ma，来我校探讨互联网时代共享存储的理解和应用，欢迎感兴趣的教师和博士生参加。具体安排如下：

　　六、内容简介

　　Systems today, commercial and HPC alike, possess storage resources shared by many concurrent workloads. While resource and performance isolation for computation has been relatively mature, I/O contention remains a challenging problem. Mixed I/O issued from multiple applications with dramatically different behaviors makes it hard to allocate resources or adjust resource levels.

　　In this talk, I will present two recent studies toward better resource coordination for shared storage. The first study targets HPC settings, where we investigate how to ‘mine’ individual data-intensive application's I/O signature from the aggregate server-side throughput logs.  Such logs are often automatically collected from today's RAID controller sand come with no performance overhead or application user intervention. The second one targets commercial settings, where many VMs issue concurrent accesses to shared virtual disks and compete for the limited host-side flash cache space. Together with VMWare researchers, we propose an efficient online per-VM I/O  monitoring scheme. It captures both long-term data reuse rate and short-term locality bursts, to facilitate dynamic flash cache partitioning between VMs.

　　七、Xiaosong Ma简历

　　Xiaosong Ma博士出生于1973年11月，本科于1997年毕业于北京大学计算机科学系，2003年获得伊利诺伊香槟分校计算机科学博士学位。曾担任过北卡罗莱纳州立大学计算机科学系副教授，同时也是美国橡树岭国家实验室的研究成员。现任卡塔尔计算研究所高级科学家。

  Xiaosong Ma博士的研究专长为存储系统，并行输入输出系统，高性能并行应用，云计算以及负载特征分析。2005年，她获得美国能源部早期职业发明者奖。2006年，获得美国国家科学基金奖。2009年，获IBM员工奖。2012年，获NetApp学院奖学金，HPDC 20年杰出论文奖，同时也获得了伊利诺伊香槟分校杰出教育者奖。
